Transferring to Indiana Birth Center Care
If you started your pregnancy journey at a different practice and want to transfer your care to Indiana Birth Center, you are welcome here!
Maybe you aren’t satisfied with the quality of care you’re getting, you just moved to the area, or simply want to switch to a more holistic care model; we want you to find the right care for your pregnancy.
Ideally, we prefer that clients start their pregnancy journey with us from the beginning, but of course, that’s not always possible. At Indiana Birth Center, we are happy to take transfers for clients who are appropriate for birth center birth.
Does transfer of care impact my pregnancy outcome?
This depends on who your previous care provider was and how far along you are before transferring care to us. As long as your previous provider was certified and provided standardized care, it is likely you don’t have much to worry about.
That said, beginning your care with us early in pregnancy can improve your overall outcome. From early prenatal visits, we focus on aspects that help lay the foundation of a healthy pregnancy. We will of course use the amount of time we have together to cover this information, and help you feel informed and prepared for your birth. When you join us later in the course of your pregnancy, we will help you catch up on any education and information that you have not received. We will spend time counseling you on nutrition, birth education, and exercise.
How can I transfer care to Indiana Birth Center?
If you want to transfer into our care, you should first reach out to sign up for a tour and get scheduled for your first appointment. Our staff will walk you through the process!
We’ll need your records from your current provider for this pregnancy. This will help us evaluate if you qualify for birth center care so we can proceed with your transfer.
Our midwives will review records and discuss them with you during your appointment. This will also help us understand your and your baby’s health, and plan you care accordingly. If you have given birth before, we also encourage bringing along your previous pregnancy records.
